Boy do I cut it close!!

Image
I've been working on my Lorna's Laces socks all wknd long because I want to finish them before the month is over. It's starting to warm up here so I wont be able to wear them much longer, plus I want to have a posting for both SAM3 and the Sock It To Em KAL. After I finished the 1st sock, I weighed what was left in the skein to see if I had enough to start sock #2. The scale said yes, but what would reality say??

Here I am before I start the toe on sock #2

Did you see how much yarn I had left?!? Here's a close up....

So I'm telling myself not to panic because the scale said that I had enough. Plus I still had an entire skein of the same color that I could break into if need be.....

Here are the finished socks.

Aren't they pretty??

But did I make it??

WOOHOO I did!! But as you can tell, just barely!! I think that's abt a yard of yarn left. As that ball of yarn kept getting smaller and smaller I was getting a bit nervous, why I dont know. Like I said I ha…

Order Me Up Some Boredom!

Image
First up, what a week this has been! I'm normally busy, but with trips to the vet, grocery shopping, work, extra trips to the post office, ballet and a field trip, I'm exhausted!! I have a few friends who tell me that if I didn't work in an office, I'd be bored. What?!? Are they kidding?? The office is the ONLY place I can go to the bathroom w/o being interrupted or have a normal conversation. It's the REST of my life that's a zoo!!

Next, I want to say thanks to all of you and the kind words you have for Samaria. The vet called and she *does* have breast cancer AND heart worms! I knew dogs could get heart worms but cats? Huh. There isnt much I can do for her cancer, she's 16 and most likely it's spread to other parts of her body. The heart worms I can treat. I'm not one to make an animal live in misery just to keep me happy, so once she starts to go down hill, I will do the humane thing. In the meantime, she's actually acting better.…

Here We Go Again.......

I noticed my 16 y/o cat Samaria was VERY quiet this wknd. She's usually very verbal, meowing all the time. Well this wknd she sounded like she had laryngitis. Since its been a couple of days that she's been like this, I took her to the vet today. Let's just say its not good.

The x-ray shows that her lungs are a salt and pepper color instead of a deep black. Plus they found a mass in her abdomin. It looks like she has cancer. They will know more tomorrow or Thurs once all her bloodwork comes back.

Honestly I think I will have one less kitty by the wknd.

Somebody pass the Xanax.

Sweat Equity

I go the entire day without coughing. That is until midnight. Then I can't stop. I end up sleeping in the recliner all night. Needless to say I don't get the best of sleep. I finally drag my body out of the couch once #1 Son tells me its time to get up (at 8:15am) and fall into my bed. Thankfully whatever it was that set off my coughing attack is no longer around and I go back to sleep. Finally at noon (yes NOON!) I wake up and drag my body out of bed to the couch. Meanwhile the IO had gotten up, fed the rugrats, the cats and himself then went back to sleep himself. We are SUCH party animals! blech.

Anyway as I'm sitting on the couch I'm watching a show on DIY called Sweat Equity. I'm watching all the things they do to their house that makes it

A: look nicer and

B: worth more.

I dont plan on selling anytime soon but its always nice to know that what I'm doing can make my house worth more in the long run.

Then I start to look at my house. Remember all those renovatio…

Kitty Knitting

I've finished off the last of the cat toys. First there was this one.....I used the left over yarn from this sock. Its the Berroco wool/cotton blend that I doubled.

Next was this one. I used some left over Red Heart Kid yarn.

Then I used another Red Heart Kid yarn to make this one.

I used the cat toy patterns from Knitty for all 3. VERY easy to do. The first one only took me a couple of hours. The other two took me a bit longer but that's because I worked on it during the week.

What's the concensus??

Tiger LOVED them!

MMMMMMM, squishy.......

You look like a toy football. I shall bat you away with my back paws.

Another one?? For me?!?

I shall use the jaws of death on this one!!

So did Samaria.

This comes with me!

MFSMHWLSDLL......

WHAT?!

Princess, however, was not that impressed......

Well it makes a comfy pillow.....

It will be interesting to see how these hold up. The eggrolls have catnip in them and claws and teeth were used liberally on them. This is why iron acrylic was used. I think …

Sunday Sky

Yesterday was such a grey day that I wanted to take a picture of today instead. Well actually it was Baby Girl's idea. She was looking out the window and pointed this out.

Did you see it?

Here's a closer look.....

Isnt that cool?!?! We've been seeing two different ones in the AM quite often the past few days but its the first time I've seen it outside my window from home. Hence the picture!

In knitting news, I decided that I wanted to do something fun and mindless after working on that sweater. I pulled out some old sock yarn and made this.

It's a cute cat toy I got off of Knitty.com. I didn't stuff it with catnip so they play with it, but don't go crazy with it. I started another one from Knitty which I should complete tonight. I'll wait to finish it so I can add some catnip and make it more enticing. They are a great way to use up leftover yarn. I stuffed the top one with left over pieces of yarn and I plan on doing the same with the new one I&…

It's Official

I can't seam a sweater to save my life. I did it and I got better as I went along, but I'm not thrilled with it. Then again I'm not thrilled with the sweater. The sleeves are too short. Its more of a 3/4 length sweater. It's long enough, but the sleeves aren't. I would do this pattern again but as a vest. And in the round. Here it is being modeled by #1 Son.

I'm sending it anyway since they accept sweaters and vests. This falls in the middle. I included what was left of the yarn (a walnut sized ball of brown) just in case they need to fix any mistakes or narrow up the neck. Its a bit wide but it depends on who is going to wear this sweater. An older kid would need the extra room. I'll start a pair of socks as well and that will be it for this campaign.

In other news, here is a picture of my sky.

It was white this AM and it's still white, just a brighter white.

And my sunflowers are doing really well.

The birds did a great job. I couldn't have done as wel…

When I'm sewing, I'm used to having *help* in the 2 legged variety. Recently, however, I am getting help from the 4 legged variety.

Sometimes I get workers that are ready for action

I'm adding the specialty fibers.

While others are found asleep on the job.

I'm on my break!

Still others, in true cat form, ignore you.

I hear I am a God in Egypt. I shall pose for you.

I just wish I knew which one did this........

And Now for Something Completely Different

I pulled out this

And did a little of this

It was nice playing with my fabrics for a change. The Insane One took the Rugrats to see all the damage from the tornado(s) that passed thru the area just north of us. While they were gone I pulled out some fabric to make an I Spy quilt. I pulled from my stash and am using up quite a bit of it. Once this is done, I need to keep going on #1 Son's quilt. I have the blue fabrics and will be cutting those up sometime this week (maybe even tomorrow). More details as they develop.....

On the knitting front I am abt 4 inches into side 2. And remember this? I decided to felt it again using hotter water this time. This is what I got.

It started out at 28" long and ended up a little more than 12.5. It felted up really well this time, but there is no way I'll be able to fold it and sew it up into a needleroll. It's too bulky. I'm thinking of cutting it up and making a couple of pot holders, but not sure yet. Or I can line th…
