Saturday Blahs

Image
It's turning into one of those days. It seems as if everything I touch falls apart. The computer is running slow, my phone locked up (didn't know they could do that!) and I'm feeling just blah. The weather isn't helping either.

The only good thing abt today? I freaked out on everybody because the house is a mess and most of it is NOT from me. Allowances were suspended and suddenly everybody is helpful! It's amazing how quickly the house gets clean when everybody chips in! The incentive? My in-laws are coming out tomorrow and we need places to sit.

Meanwhile I think I'm ready for one of these......

It seems that since we've been back from NC, I've been moving in slow motion. This does not work well when my schedule is moving at regular speed. Plus our wknds have been busy as well so there hasn't been much downtime there either. Well there HAS been, but when you are moving in slow motion, it doesn't feel like it. Today I decided that I would really concentrate on getting laundry done and go thru the piles on my dresser. They were getting quite high and I was missing a few things that I thought were hiding underneath all the mess.

The good news? I got 3 loads of laundry done, found some missing receipts, found the remote to the DVD player, put the pile of clothes away that's been living on my dresser longer than I care to say, organized another pile of clothes that need to be given away, sent back some DVDs to Netflix and returned some stuff that we never used on our vacation.

The bad news? I feel like I've just scratched the surface. While the coupon…

1. I met Dee last week for some stitching time and while we were together, she finished her socks. Aren't they cute? She had some yarn left over,

not enough for a full sized person, but enough for a kid. Since she knows I have a couple of those, she passed on the extras to me. She's good that way! Thanks Dee!

2. While I never got a chance to go yarn shopping on vacation, I did pick up some clearance yarn at Wal-Mart when I was shopping for vacation.

Those are some big skeins and I plan on using them for more kitty blankets.

3. I finished off a hat for charity.

It's small enough for a child, but large enough for a man. I had everybody try the hat on, including the IO. It fit every one of us, but only Baby Girl was willing to pose with it.
Stats for this hat are:

Date Start: 1/8/10
Date End: 1/17/10
cast on 100sts on size 7 needle. Knit 2x2 rib red for 3.25", 7 rows blue, rib total 7" before decreases
yarn: Plymouth Yarns Suri Merino in red and blue.

Saturday Updates

Image
First up, my sky today.

Not very pretty, but it was around 75 today so no complaints here!

For those of you wondering, yes this IS still a knitting blog. I just haven't had anything to show recently. I realize that cold weather is supposed to give you incentive to knit, but in *my* reality, my hands have been too cold to do much of anything so all projects have not been moving along much at all. Since the weather is warming up, the hands are thawing out and I do have some things to show.

This is the latest hat I'm working on.

I'm using Plymouth's SuriMerino, which is a wool/alpaca blend. I'm finding out that alpaca and my nose do not get along very well and I'm having to reconsider any projects with alpaca in them. This yarn has abt 50% alpaca in it and it's tolerable. I have another project that is 80% alpaca and it's going to be ripped out. I LOVE it, but it's bothering me too much. I think I'll post it here first, then if nobody wants it,…

Now That's More Like It!

Dear Mr. Frost,

You made a lovely appearance on my yard (covering up the now dead grass)

and my car (extra effort was put toward the roof!)

and entertained the troops.

However, it is SOO time for you to go!**

Ways to Keep Warm

Saturday Sleet!

What is wrong with this picture?

Ok so it's not exactly a winter wonderland

but this is ORLANDO!!

My friend sent this to me from Ocala, abt an hour north of me.

Ok I'll wait until all you northerners stop laughing.

Feel better??

I'll say it again. THIS IS ORLANDO!

Right now at 8:30pm, it's 27 degrees. Long Island is 22. All I can say is I don't have enough hand knits.

And for all of you northerners who are STILL laughing???

My temps will be in the 70s by next Friday. Now *I* feel better! ;-)

Just One of Those Days

Virtual vacations are wonderful. You get to do what you want when you want. There are no flubs or imperfections in your vacation. There are no *internet cafes* that are really smoke filled gambling spots (real life vacation lesson #1: check all future internet cafes before taking children inside). There are no mountain highways that include 6 miles of S turns (real life vacation lesson #2: never drive from Cary, NC to Sylva, NC w/o a barf bag). There are no asthmatic children gasping for breath (real life vacation lesson #3: asthma and high altitudes DO NOT mix). Nope, virtual vacations don't include any of that.

But where's the fun in that?!?!

So as you can see, while we *did* have fun on our vacation, we also had some real life lessons as well. I think we might be sticking with the Keys next year instead.

Since we've been back, I've become a bit of a sloth. Having weather in the 20s and 30s doesn't help either. There is something wrong when the weather…

Welcome to Happy Trails Travel Agency, your number #1 choice in virtual vacations. Last year we did a Florida Road Trip. This year we decided to do something different and are heading toward the mountains. I will be your tour guide and plan on making this trip a fun one!!

We will be waking up early

so make sure to get a good night sleep the night before. However if you were up late packing, don't worry, lots and lots of coffee will be provided along the way!

Since we want to keep things fun, we will be stopping along the way for some sightseeing

We'll go up Pedro's hat for some cool scenery

and some kitchy photos.

For those of you with family in the area,

a stop will be provided for some quality bonding time.

After a nice hearty breakfast

we'll be heading off toward the mountains

where we have reservations to stay in some cozy cabins.

Make sure to dress warmly because it WILL be cold!

For those artistic members among us, crafts will be provided. We will have kits for our begi…
