In Under the Wire

Being a part of the Sock a Month KAL gives me incentive to finish up socks. In fact, it's the reason these are finished today!

I had 3 inches left on the foot before the toe decreases yesterday, and it was just enough to give me incentive to finish it off. I kitchenered the toe around 10:30 this am.

I'm happy with these socks, but I'm not thrilled. Not sure why, it could be because I'm sick of looking at them.

Here are the details:

Jitterbug Socks

Sock #1: 10/14/10 - 1/18/11
Sock #2: 1/19 - 2/28/11

Colinette Jitterbug yarn in #88 Marble, 64sts using 2,5mm dpns
Cuff: 3x1 rib for 12 rows then 6 rows of stst

Yarn used up: 2.7oz

Since I made short cuffs, I still have a decent sized ball of yarn left. They'd be good to add as accents or maybe I can make Baby Girl another Barbie coat.......

Now that these are done, I already cast on for another pair. I've only done 2 rows so far so no pics yet, but I'm using a Basket ribbing this time around with some Cherry Tree Hill yarn that's been sitting in the stash for awhile. I'll post a pic once I get something to show!

Saturday Sky

We were in Africa today and saw an upside down tree, aka the Baobab.

The locals can probably figure out where we were, but for those that need a little more of a clue, here you go.

Still not sure?? How abt now?

Can't quite place it?? Last clue.

We haven't been as a family in 5 years. Sad considering we live less than an hour away. We have season passes now so Mickey will be making more of an appearance this coming year.....

Moving on to the next project

Now that the hat is done, I needed to change out to a project with bigger needles. I have a scarf and a kitty blanket started, but neither one wanted to be worked on. In fact, the scarf got ripped out. It was thinner than I wanted so off to the frog pond it went. That left me with the kitty blanket and my jitterbug sock.

Then I remembered reading in a newsletter from Debbie Macomber that she was sponsoring a charity event calledKnit 1, Bless 2. She's collecting items for Project Linus, The Binky Patrol and Newborns in Need. (all these links can be found thru Debbie's link above) After re-reading the newsletter I decided to cast on a baby blanket for Project Linus. I had some leftover Simply Soft in white and light blue and cast on. It's an easy project that's for a good cause and I'm using yarn I already had. That's a win/win!

Since this blanket is for a baby, Mom won't let me add my special fibers. Where's the added love gonna come from?!?

Just in time for 80 degree weather

This is the forecast for the next week.

And this is what I finished on the 16th

It fits both Baby Girl and me

but we wont be needing it any time soon. It will go into the bin for next year. Baby Girl loves it so it will get used next year. When I started this hat, she wasn't too keen on it, but now that it's done, she really likes it.

Airy Hat
Dream in Color Smooshy Rose Smash
10/22/10 - 2/16/11

1.7oz used

Meanwhile gas is making its steady climb again. The cheapest I've seen here is $3.09, but I've seen it as high as $3.15 earlier today. How much are you paying?

Roller Coaster Saturday

Good news: The IO has gotten a contract to perm job.
Bad news: There was a drop in pay during the contract part.
IO reacting to bad news: He sent a *strongly worded letter* telling his contact what he thought of the contract company. The email is forwarded up the chain of command.
Good news: He ended up getting a dollar more an hour.
Bad news: There was a break from one job to another and we were w/o pay for almost 2weeks.

Overall news: We are surviving.

Good news: My 57 y/o sister finally sold her place in Ft Lauderdale and is now an official Central Florida resident. She has been here a month.
Bad news: She had a mild heart attack yesterday and my other sister and I spent the day with her in the hospital today.
Good news: She will be ok. It was a mild heart attack and there is only one blockage that is too small to stent.
Not sure what kind of news: She had a fight with her nurse today. While I'm thrilled she is fiesty enough to argue, I'm not sure it's the best thing to fight with the person who brings you medication.

Overall news: I need a xanax.

Again, this is why I knit. I almost finished the Jitterbug sock today. My hand was pretty cramped up, but I didn't kill anybody.

Meanwhile here is my lame attempt at the sky.

I SO wish I had a better camera. The moon was HUGE and ORANGE! Absolutely gorgeous.

Saturday Stitching

It's been a bit cloudy the past couple of days so it was nice to finally get a day like today.

The cloud patterns were really cool today, too. The camera really couldn't capture it all.

Last night I was trying to figure out what to work on. I didn't feel like working on my hat (decreasing crown now), or my sock (starting the heel on sock #2), or a kitty blanket. So I decided to switch crafts. Out came the cross stitch.

But which one? I was *this close* to starting a new project when I came across my snowman.

All that was needed was the backstitching. But was I in the mood to backstitch?

Apparently I was! I started on the mitten last night because I wasn't sure if I was going to rip it out or not. I was really unhappy with the way it looked, but I know that backstitching can make a difference. It did and that kept me going. I finished it off today and am VERY happy this guy is done. Since we are on the back end of winter, I won't be framing it for this year, but it's ready to go for next year.

Here are the stats for this project.

Snowflakes are New Friends
Date Start: 12/08/07
Date End: 2/12/11
Total Project Time: 3yrs, 2 months (even though actual stitching time was more like a month)
Pattern: Stitcher's World magazine, don't know the year since I just saved the pattern. But I do know it was before 2007.
Fabric used: Millennium Blue 28ct linen
Modifications: I changed out the color of the mitten from dark blue to purple. I also left out the top border of the pattern. I already had a mitten and a scarf in the piece.

Did I mention that I'm so happy this is done? One less WIP in my cross stitch pile. I have 7 left now. Once my snowman was done, I was itching to work on something else, but what? Since I was still in the backstitching mode, I pulled out my Seasonal Fall and started on him. I figure I should strike while the desire to backstitch was hot.

I also found 2 more snowman fabrics that have been washed and added to my pile. I'm getting that urge to work on a quilt........

Sunday skies

arent any better than my Saturday skies so instead I'm going to post

On This Day In History

Feb 6, 2009

While the sun keeps playing tag with the clouds, I was able to get some shots of current projects.

My Airy hat.

Looks more like a volcano to me and if I hadn't see a finished project, I don't know if I would continue. I have a small bit of the ribbing to finish then I can start on the decreases.

Mistake Rib scarf

I had some Cashmerino yarn just sitting in the bin that I wanted to use for a scarf, but didn't have enough of one color to make one complete item so I decided to double the strands and change out one strand at a time. So far I've done two dark browns and have switched to a dark brown strand and brown strand.

Kitty Blanket #1

This is taking much longer than I expected but it's a nice mindless knit at night. I'm keeping the chocolate brown constant while I'm switching out the red and peach. So far so good.

Jitterbug sock - still MIA. I know it's around somewhere, probably buried under my attempts of organization. I finally removed my craft table from my living room which meant moving the contents of said table to a big bin and relocating it to my bedroom. It looks like a side car to the bed. Princess loves it. We also got another computer and the IO moved the desk from the living room to the office and set up shop in there. Now my living room looks a bit bare. Oh and as I was trying to organize stuff in the bedroom, I came across my snowman fabric for a snowball quilt I want to make. I'm trying to find the fabric for the I Spy quilt for #1 Son but that must be with the sock. So I did what any quilter would do. I washed the fabrics and they are sitting in yet another pile waiting to be ironed.

I'm beginning to think I have a problem........

The best of intentions

I have a pile of books on my dresser to read. Books that I have bought abt a year ago that are just waiting for me to pick up and read. I also have a drawer full of magazines I've collected over the years that are just waiting to be read. So what did I get when I went to the library today??

I have such good intentions. In my mind I have all this time to lounge around and read. The same free time I can also use to stitch or knit or quilt. In my mind I get LOTS done. It's reality that messes me up.

However in reality I did get some projects worked on in Jan which meant I had some orts to add to my jar for TuSal this month so the jar did grow a bit. See?

I didn't empty it out from last month, just gonna let it keep filling up until the dust bunnies or fur balls take over.

I also have a finish to share, another kitty blanket.

This one is Kitty Blanket #3.
Date start: 1/22/11
Date end: 1/23/11

40sts on size 11 needle using 3 strands of various worsted weight yarn

Finished size: 14.5" x 18"

Yarn used up: 427yds/8.1oz

This one is the smallest I've done so far. Using the 3 strands of ww on size 11 was harder on my hands than I was expecting. I usually only use 2 with a 10 or 10.5. The worsted weight yarn is yarn I had left over from other projects that needed to be used up. Mostly Red Heart, but I think there was a Caron TLC thrown in as well. I changed out a strand for a new yarn every 10 rows so the colors blend a bit more. Overall I like it, but probably wouldn't do this particular combo again.

So there you have it, some progress in a normally chaotic schedule. I'm still working on a hat, a scarf and those jitterbug socks, but those are apparently on hold. I can't seem to find them.

And for those buried under 500ft of snow, here is a little something to look forward to.

How long do you think?

before I kill them??

I went to Lowe's on Friday to get something pretty for the front door. My yard is brown and the shrubs are dead so I wanted something pretty to look at when you came to the front door. And it had to be cheap since I have a black thumb.

Off to the clearance rack I went and found out that the mgr was having a massive sale to get rid of what was there. What was originally a buck was now a DIME!!!! That palm tree was marked down to a dollar. And the hanging plants were a quarter. After I picked up Baby Girl we went back and got more! So far so good. They are actually starting to bloom.

The crazy thing is the yellow flowers are the ones that aren't doing so well.

I paid full price for them.

To all my readers in the great white north (which seems to now start in North Carolina) I hope you all are staying safe and warm and that these pics give you hope that there will be a day when you can start planting your garden as well. Meanwhile you can live vicariously thru me.

Is it Finally My Turn???

We are down to one computer here at Happy Acres and I'm no so happy. I have to get all my computer time in while the kids are in school. Once they get home they need to get all their time in before the IO gets home because once that happens, NOBODY else gets on! This should be a good thing, a way to cut back on computer, but I've got crops to plant, blogs to read and posts to make!!

Hello, my name is Lynn and I'm a WWW-aholic.

Just add it to my other various addictions. So far they are all legal so I don't have to avoid the po-po.

So what have I been doing with all this *free* time? Not as much as you'd think. We had my in laws out this wknd and a friend of mine threw us a 25th anniversary party. We had a really nice time and got lots of incriminating shots. While this was the best one of us

I like this one the best!

It seems to capture our dynamic a bit better.

I've got my TuSal update coming up in a couple of days so I'll post my projects and my one finish then.

Meanwhile all those in the way of the massive storm (which should be all of you since it seems to be covering the entire US), stay safe and warm. I'll be sitting in my house with the windows and door open. Did I mention we'll be in the 60s and 70s the rest of the week???

THIS is why I live in Florida!
