Moving Right Along

Image
So far I've finished off the back of the sweater

and have started the left front.

Sock #1 is at the foot and I only have a couple more inches before the decrease.  I just cant make up my mind as to how many inches I want the sock to be so I have it on hold.

I was playing in my fabric this morning and I realized two things:   1) I may not have SABLE (stash beyond life expectancy), but I've got a LOT!     and  2)  there are still many more quilts I want to make.

I felt the same way when I went thru my yarn.  I'm afraid to go thru my cross stitch!  The last thing I need is another project in the works!!!

Most people stop crafting in the summer, but not me.  I rev up.  What about you?  Do you go on a crafting hiatus like the Fall Lineup or do you just switch over to the new Summer Shows on cable??

Feel free to talk abt either crafting or TV viewing.  I do both.

Fun with Fiber

The past few days I've been going thru the piles next to the bed.  Bags of yarn, bags of projects, piles of magazines, more bags of yarn that have accumulated over the past few months.  Yarn I forgot I bought when I was with Dee at Tuesday Morning.  Yarn I bought to fix an afghan for my sister.  The bag of ongoing squares  for my afghan (woohoo!!)

Meanwhile I am making some progress on Elliot's (the soon to be new nephew) projects.  I've got the cuff done on sock #1

and I should start the heel today.

I've also started the sweater.

The pattern is from a Debbie Bliss book of baby projects, a two toned v-neck sweater.  It's really very cute and very easy.  I have enough yarn to make a matching hat and socks.

Of course as I was playing in the stash, I came across a few skeins of yarn that I want for the next pair of socks.  Since I am the slowest knitter ever, I narrowed it down to this yarn
It's an orange-y/rust color that I've liked since I bought it.  I wo…

Saturday Sky

Image
Today is the first Saturday in 5 weeks that had nothing specific planned so I took the opportunity to keep it that way. I told the kids that there would be no friends over and no going over to friends. We all need the time to crash and recharge. I know they are tired when I get no arguments!

This morning was a little bit hazy and cloudy

which I figured was due to Beryl, but it's cleared up really well.

Other than the heat index hitting 100, it was a nice day!  Apparently Beryl will be making more of an appearance tomorrow.  I'm not complaining, we REALLY need the rain.

Since my socks are finished and I have a nephew arriving in a few short weeks, I decided it was time to find a few things to make for him.  After sorting thru the yarn and my books, I've started a pair of baby socks

using malabrigo yarn.  I figure it's the perfect baby sock yarn.  It's soft and I dont have to worry abt the kid wearing it thru.

I also pulled out some yarn for a baby sweater.

Monday Morning Update

Image
I finally have a finish to share!!!!  My  Baby Girl's socks are done!

I finished them off last night, and while they are a *little* snug, they fit pretty well.

Baby Girl saw them and wanted to know if she could try them on.

They fit her perfectly!!!  So it looks as if she has a pair of socks for next winter.  That is if her foot stops growing.  She's a ladies 7 right now and she's only 10.

I started sock #1 on 2/17 and finished weaving in all the ends on 5/20.  I am SUCH a slow knitter.  The yarn is Lornas Laces sport weight in Mt Creek #56 and the cuff/heel/toe purple is Silja #392 (it's a yarn I bought a LONG time ago from the LYS that has since changed owners and then closed down).  The Lorna's Laces is a really nice yarn, the Silja would not be bought again.  It's not a bad yarn, but it's a bit rough.  I may add it to another sport weight and make some bulky charity socks with the left overs.

Now that these socks are done, I really dont have alot …

Saturday Survival

Image
I did it!  I survived all the field trips of the 2011/2012 school year.  This time was a band trip where #1 Son was in a parade
and then got to play in Universal Studios.

Eight boys with three moms is MUCH easier than 15 boys with 3 moms like we had last week! However we did have bus issues again this trip.  Last week the bus driver took us to Sea World instead of Epcot so we were much later than planned.  Then we had to wait another half hour before we could leave because we were waiting on other ppl to come back to the buses.  THIS time we got to the right area,  but had bus trouble going home.  Instead of three buses, we had only one, parked in a different location and did NOT have all the instuments on it.  We got another bus to cram the rest of us in and sent the bus with all our stuff on it back to the school.  Thankfully we had all the buses back at the school by the time we arrived.

Most of the time I will bring my knitting on field trips, but I never get the chance to work…

Some Mish and a little bit of Mosh

Image
Since my life has been a mish mosh of events lately, I've decided that this post will reflect that.

In the past month I have been to Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios,

Epcot

 and an overnight SeaWorld trip.

Add a few school club parties, PTO meetings, Teacher Appreciation Week, FCAT, car wash fundraisers, advanced chorus concerts, Steel Drum Band concert at UCF (they came in at superior in their class!!!  WOOHOO!), regular band concerts, book fairs and science fairs.

We still have one more band concert tonight and another band trip to Universal Studios tomorrow (did I mention I sprained my toe and walk with a limp?!!?).  The Band Banquet is next week along with a talent show (thankfully it's just to watch and NOT participate in).  One more trip to Hollywood studios rounds out my month.

I was less busy when I worked in the Advertising Dept for a NY newspaper.  And the reason why I'm living on full octane coffee.

However every single one has been fun and I havn't…

Simple Woman's Daybook for May 8, 2012

Outside my window...it was another warm one out there.  The heat index was in the 90s.  Thankfully we got some rain and it helped cool things off a bit.  Rain still helps.  In a couple of months the only thing rain will do is make the air thick and sticky.

I am thinking...
Abt the next couple of weeks.  It's that time of year where all the events seem to take place.  School is out the first week of June so we've got field trips and concerts and award ceremonies to attend.

I am thankful for...
the fact that I found my sock!!!!   I took it with me on the SeaWorld field trip hoping I could put in a couple of rows here and there but that just did NOT happen.  It seems that when I don't bring something to knit on, we've got lots of downtime.  When I do, I dont even take it out of the backpack.  I thought I switched the sock from my backpack to my suitcase, but when it was all unpacked and put away, I got scared that I lost it since it was not in either suitcase I brought.  A…

Thursday in the Garden

Image
The good news????  Nothing's died yet.  Woohoo!!!

Actually things are moving along well.  My petunias are blooming in every container.

The geraniums are starting to bloom as well.

The vinca are doing well.  In fact I didnt notice at first but there are not only hot pink and white in this container, but light pink as well!!!

BONUS!

With all the watering going on, my azalea bush that I thought had seen better days is actually blooming!

It's still really scraggly but I've got flowers!

The impatiens only have one bloom

but there are SO many ready to pop, this container should be full of flowers by the wknd.

The biggest surprise?  My tomato plants.  I'm doing a before and after because it's amazing the difference.

TP#1  before

and after

TP#2 before

and after.

This has already reached the top of the cage!!!!  The blooms from last week fell off, really no surprise because they were there before I planted them, but I've got a couple of new ones already starting …

It's not a closet.......

....it's a clown car!!!!  The more I pull out, the more I find.

For those of you not on Facebook, I found a dead mouse in my closet.  Not because we have mice, but because I have a cat (Hemi, I'd put money yarn on it!) that likes the catch and release system, he catches outside and releases inside (sentiment from Janet and TOTALLY true!)  I find more lizards than I care to say.  He brings them in and plays with them.  They get away and hide.  Usually in my closet.  I dont mind lizards and try to catch them to put them back out.

This time was different.  Last week I kept smelling something that was off.  I thought it might be the septic tank and checked for signs of problems.  Nothing.  Took out the hamper thinking something was put in there that should have been washed immediately.  Nada.  Meanwhile this smell kept getting worse and worse.

We finally figured out the smell was coming from my closet.  Ugh.  Do you know how much stuff is IN my closet?!?  I was scared.  What WAS…

That can't be right........

I had to flip the calendar today to May.

MAY!

It may be May on the calendar, but it feels more like April 10th.  How can I be mentally almost a month behind?!?!?

As if Facebook, Blogger, Club Pogo and Ravelry weren't enough to suck up any downtime I have, I finally got signed into Pinterest.  I've been trying to get an invite emailed out to me but it just never seemed to work.  Then I asked Dee for an invite and within 5 min I was on.  Hmmmmmm, I find it a bit overwhelming, but I'm sure with some quality time spent going thru it all, I'll figure it out.

Since I still dont have a complete computer I thought I would play  On This Day in History.  I went to 2009 because Baby Girl will be going to her first overnight field trip to SeaWorld, the same one #1 Son went on 3 years ago.  However I cant find any pics of the trip.  None on the blog anyway.

So instead I'll post a sweater that was made at that time but is now way too small.

A sweater for Baby Girl.........
