Saturday Sky

Still can't find my camera cord, but I found out where I can put my memory card into my computer so we've got pictures again!  Just in time for Saturday Sky.
Big puffy clouds and in the 80s.  Not a bad day for the first day of Winter!!

I also finished #1 Son's hat.

He loves it and has worn it a couple of times already, regardless of the weather!

I have two more hats started and may start another slouchy hat to make three going at once.  When I was working on #1 Son's hat, I was getting kind of low with yarn.  When I went to double check how much yarn I had left over from Baby Girl's hat (same pattern and same brand of yarn) I noticed I had to use part of a second skein!!!

uh oh.....

I kept knitting until I ran out of yarn.  I had 11 rows left.  Ugh.  I didn't want to use another brand of yarn to finish this hat so I went to JoAnn's to get more.  THANKFULLY I found a couple of skeins in a corner bin.  Apparently it's not a color my JoAnn's carries (it wasn't near the other ones) so I was thrilled to find some there.   I also found another color that #1 Son liked so two more came home with me.
They were on sale for $2.50/skein so why not???

Speaking of sales look what came in the mail for me today??

I was surfing the web and ended up at Knit Picks.  I went for one reason and ended up buying for another reason!!!

The Stroll sport was on clearance so I bought a couple.  I almost bought more but I emptied the cart before I kept on.  I wanted that pumpkin once before, but I'm glad I waited since now I got it on clearance!

That purple was just too pretty NOT to get and who doesn't need more sock needles???

I paid less than $20 for that box and it made me very happy.  A twenty well spent!

I'll try to post one more time before Monday.  I go in for surgery then and probably wont be able to post until later on next week.

Have a great weekend!!!  and make sure to take some time and knit!

Simple Woman's Daybook

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
we actually had frost on the roof this AM!!!  Number One Son has to be at school early and there is an area that is near the school that is lower than the rest.  Not only was it very foggy (it literally looked like a cloud and you could NOT see the street) but almost every house had frost on it.  Meanwhile Saturday will be a high of 83.

I am thinking... I want to get a lot done by Monday but am also thinking I wont get as much done as I'd like.....  story of my life.  I really want to play with fabric right now but will probably save that for the next couple of weeks.

I am thankful... for the walk I just took.  Sometimes I get stuck inside my mind and I just gotta get out there to clear the cobwebs out.  It's also 62 degrees outside and sunny so what's my excuse NOT to go outside?!?

In the kitchen... I'm trying to cook more, esp since Baby Girl is still having problems with her gut.  Yesterday was Grandma's Chicken (if you've been reading my SWD you know I make this a LOT!) rice, peas and cornbread.  Actually Baby Girl made the cornbread.  She was exhausted afterward but it was good to see her with the desire and energy to do it.

I am wearing... baggy blue t-shirt, blue sweatpants and knit socks

I am creating... with my impending surgery coming up, I have started not one but two hats.  It would have been three, but the needles I need are being used in another hat.  I have pictures to share, but unfortunately I cant find my camera cord.  The pics are trapped in my camera.  I either need to find it or pull out my SIM card and find the right spot in my computer to upload them.  I will also start a couple of more socks.  I want to have easy knitting to work on while I'm recovering.

I am going... to have surgery on Monday.  I have a small hernia that needs to be repaired and a fibroid the size of a navel orange.  I will be having it removed along with my uterus.  It served me well but apparently it's trying to grow something else.  No female issues because of it, but it likes to dig into various other organs or the spot where my hernia is.  It's outta here!!!

I am wondering... what it will be like to not feel pregnant again.  A navel orange is the size of a 5 month fetus.  I feel like I did when I was 9 months pregnant.

I am reading... blogs.  Medical paperwork.  Medical sites late at night.  I don't recommend that last one.  No matter what you have, all roads lead to cancer and then a painful death.

I am hoping... that Baby Girl feels better soon.  It's been hard to have her sick while I'm not up to par.  She had an x-ray yesterday and from what the tech showed me her digestive system is a bit clogged.  I know it's from the move.  We ate WAY too much fast food for a month while we were having yard sales and packing in the dark and moving into a new house.  We've cut out all fast food and soda (except ginger ale), we've cut back on dairy and wheat.  I've decided to join her because 1) it always helps to have a buddy when you are watching your diet and B) it will be a good thing for me as well.

I am looking forward to... 2014.  I'm hoping for a healthier year.

I am learning...  that family is family and they will always feel comfortable saying what's on their mind.  When I told my sister what was going on, part of her response was, "so is that why you've gained so much weight?"  ~sigh~

Around the house... more boxes are being unpacked.  It's amazing how many there are.  Good news is I found the box with the spices.  Now I just need to unpack the entire thing instead of just digging for what I need and leaving the rest behind.

I am pondering... the different ways to self motivate

A favorite quote for today...
This was what I woke up to this AM.  I was cold and couldn't move because I had Hemi on top of me and Lucy tangled up with my legs.....I got the stink eye from both when I got up to put the heat on.

One of my favorite things  AKA Hemi's Corner....

A few plans for the rest of the week: try and get as much done as possible before Monday.  I also have blood work for Baby Girl on Thursday and pre-op work for me on Friday.

A peek into my day...  paying bills, unpacking another box, knitting.

If you want to play, go here

FOR TODAY

Outside my window...
it's been warm.  Like REALLY warm.  While the rest of the US is in a deep freeze, we are almost breaking heat records.  My thermometer hanging outside said 86 earlier today.  Right now a *cool* front is going thru and we are now at 79.  I do NOT want what you guys are getting up north, but its the middle of December and I'm sweating with the a/c on.  I'll send some heat if any of you want to send some of your cold.  The average should give us something in the 50s and we'd all be happy!

I am thinking... I really should attack that pile of laundry that is sitting next to me.

I am thankful... that this house is starting to feel like a home.  Still lots to do, but we're getting rooms together, and boxes are slowly leaving my living room.

In the kitchen... not much.  I've got one burner that doesn't work and another one that takes FOREVER to get hot.   It takes me almost 7 min to boil a pot of water.  This leaves me with two small burners and a microwave.   I'm working with it, but it's difficult.  Plus that elusive box of spices are still missing.  I did find the box that had my favorite pots in it so that made me happy.  And I need to contact the property manager to have somebody come out and fix my stove!!!!

I am wearing... baggy blue t-shirt and beige shorts

I am creating... I've shown you Bag Ladies and my yarn stash so that has taken the majority of my time.  However I did pull out a Mystery KAL for Castle Fans on Ravelry (yes I should include links but I'm too lazy right now) which I'm trying to work on.  One side is knit (perfect for watching tv), the other side is various stitches of knits and purls.  Once done it will be a pattern (the mystery part), but that means I need to pay attention.  This means it is NOT mindless knitting.  I've worked on it a bit today and I'm almost done with clue #1.  I think we are at clue #8.......

I am going... to work a little more on it tonight to finish off clue #1.

I am wondering... why #1 Son hasn't asked me why I haven't started his hat yet.  Then again it was 86 today so a hat probably wasn't high on the list of priorities.  Finding out about driving school is.

I am reading...nothing.  However I am getting caught up with some tv shows I missed over the months of Oct and Nov.  I love the original programming on USA and I'm finally caught up on Suits and White Collar.  Still loving both shows.  I'm also liking The Mentalist again.  Now that the Red John storyline is over, they can go back to the playfulness they had in the beginning of the series.

I am hoping... to have this house unpacked by the new year.

I am looking forward to... the new year.  I'm not much for turning over a calendar page, but this has been quite the year of craziness and I'm hoping 2014 will be a bit better.  Most of the up in the air stuff will be settled by the end of December so I have reason to hope.

I am hearing...... some tv show that #1 Son is watching (not sure what it is).  The house is somewhat quiet, which is surprising considering it's not even 7pm yet.  Neither kid feels great so that has a lot to do with it.

Around the house... less boxes and more order.  Not quite there yet, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I am pondering... the need for stability.

A favorite quote for today...

I want to find this and hang it in my family room

One of my favorite things AKA Hemi's Corner...

Is that outside??

I want to go outside.

Why wont you let me outside??

Can you tell the boy wants to go outside?!?  Him and Princess have had a tough time being strictly indoor kitties, so we have compromised.  Over the wknd we let all three go outside.  I've done this with other cats of mine over the years after a move and I'm very gradual with it.  We all went out with them for abt 20 min. then we picked them up and brought them in.  Later that afternoon we did the same thing.  Sunday was similar but the kids stayed outside longer with them.  On Monday I let them out in the morning by themselves.  I checked on them an hour later and both Hemi and Princess were close by when I called for them.  I pet them and went back inside.  They've been unsupervised ever since.

Where is the compromise you say??  They are in by nightfall.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  keep at the boxes.  I need to tackle the growing pile of paperwork.  I also have a couple of loads of laundry that need to be folded and put away.  Thursday is the dr appt. for Baby Girl and on Friday I plan on meeting up with some friends for a craft day.  A couple of local ladies and I decided to try and meet up once a month.  It's usually at somebody's house and we bring lunch for everybody.  Nothing fancy, but I did try out a salad recipe on them.  The pasta salad was basic but the buttermilk/ranch dressing was REALLY good.  I have no idea what I'm making  this week.  Last month was a veggie platter and I'd like to try something different again.

A peek into my day...  don't hate me because I'm warm.....

When the knitting is hiding......

Last week I really wanted to work on something and since the knitting was hiding I worked on whatever I could find.  Out came Bag Ladies.

Who remembers this one??  If you do, then you've been reading for awhile because the last time I posted this was back in 2010!!!  That's also the last time I worked on it.  I still like it so out it came.  Then I remembered why it's not done.  Those half stitches are horrible!!!  Normally I would say they would be fantastic because you are only doing half the work, but it distorts the fabric something fierce and it can be a bit of a pain to make sure you hit the right holes.  I finished the green bag off and worked a bit more on the yellow bag.

I still think it's adorable and will try to keep working on her.  I also found Queen Ann's Lace but I haven't worked on her since 2007!  It's a L&L pattern and between the million color changes and the itty bitty 32ct linen I started it on, it really wont see much action.  I think she is my oldest WIP.....

A Productive Weekend

I'm slowly chipping away at this house and I'm trying to leave the wknds for my craft room.  Since I seem to have a ton of hobbies that I don't spend nearly enough time doing,  I've decided to attack them one at a time.

First up was my knitting/yarn collection.  I pulled out all the yarn from my room, the craft room and the garage and came up with this.

I posted this yesterday.  After two days of separating into classifications (charity yarn, sock yarn, cotton, misc worsted weight, misc other weights, enough yarn for projects but no patterns, projects with yarn and pattern, on going projects)  I ended up with this.

Much better, right?  It looks so organized and I'm rather proud of myself.  Other than the charity yarn, everything else is on Ravelry.  THAT'S what took the better part of the wknd.  Making sure I had it posted AND with a picture.

This bin is strictly sock yarn only.

Notice the beginnings of a bulging lid.....

I was going to dump it out and make a pretty rainbow like I did a couple years back, but after all the other organizing I lost the desire.  From what I count in Ravelry I have enough yarn to make 65 pairs of socks.  Back in 2010 I had enough for almost 60.  I apparently am not knitting fast enough to get that number down.

The on going projects and projects with yarn & patterns ready for cast on are in this pile.

THIS still needs to be sorted, but it wont take long.  And I think that some of those projects aren't too far from finishing so hopefully I will have some finishes by the end of the year.

FINALLY Saturday!

This has been a week where I have been gone more than I've been home.  This does no bode well for cooking or unpacking (even though I have unpacked 5 boxes, yes I'm counting the ones that only had two items in it.  Unpacked is unpacked!)  Baby Girl is sick and they cant figure out what is wrong with her.  She's nauseous and a bit dizzy.  My original pediatrician suddenly got up and moved to NC back in July (ticked me off because we were there in June and there was NO mention of this; not in the office, not in the mail) and I've been trying to find a replacement since.  I was never really fond of her so there is no love lost, but trying to find another dr is a pain.  I've asked around and the one that is a favorite just moved 30 miles away.  I really don't want to travel that far for a dr but two of my friends will still travel that because, as they've both said, "she's that good".  We went to a clinic this past Thursday and the "doctor" (I use the term loosely because she was an idiot) gave us an antibiotic "in case she has a sinus infection" (I think she just gave it to me because she thought I wanted it) plus a script for a Prilosec type med and an anti nausea med FOR THOSE UNDERGOING CHEMOTHERAPY!

I am not a happy camper because we've just gone back to using pepto bismol and Tylenol.  I'm hoping to find out more next week.  No fever, nothing leaving the body quickly at either end, just a headache that never leaves and nausea.  She had her eyes checked on Wednesday and she does need glasses for school, but not at home.  Since she's been home this entire week and the headache is still here,  there goes my theory that it's from not seeing the board.

I've also had to shuttle her back and forth to school for band pics, I've had a drs appt for my hernia and baby sized fibroid, had the car worked on, returned and picked up a new vacuum cleaner and had to straighten out some issues with the property mgmt of this house.

It's been a long week.

So today I'm taking it easy.  It's Saturday and you know what that means.

Pics of the sky.  I'm using the two views that got the most votes.

Do you think if I called the city they'd remove the power lines so my picture would be nicer??

I'm also playing with yarn.

This is the entire yarn stash.  Not too bad, but each of those boxes has yarn stuffed into them.  I think there is one more box somewhere because there is some yarn I'm looking for and cant seem to find.  It might have been shoved into another non related box that's marked Lynn's Bedroom. The GOOD news is that I have found my sock bag so I can actually start on them again.

The yarn I ordered for #1 Son's hat came in today.  He was disappointed it wasn't delivered by a drone. And he's already asking me when it will be done.

I really do have a lot of projects going..........

For those of  you who are freezing up north, stay warm.  Meanwhile I have my a/c running......

Have a pleasant Saturday!!!!  ;P
