A little bit of cross stitching

I found a tote bag of some cross stitch that I started a LONG time ago.  I still love the projects, but my eyes and mind aren't what they used to be.  The three in this tote bag are what I refer to as confetti stitching.  For those of you who don't cross stitch, confetti stitching is when you have a project that has a lot of detailing and shading.  In order to get that look using fabric and colored thread, you need to change colors.  A LOT!  I've actually been in the mood to stitch (this is what happens when I go thru my stash) and I decided to work on one of these guys.

I pulled out Bag Ladies.  I always think I will move faster on this than I actually do.  The bags are half stitches, which means half the work, right??  In theory, yes.  In reality I need to pay attention to the color and shading so that the bags turn out right.

Here it is back in Dec when I put a few stitches in it

and here it is from today

I worked some more on the beige bag (SO. MUCH. BEIGE!) and then I moved over to the cat peeking thru the green bag.  I'm going to take a break from it for a bit and work on something a bit easier.  Then I may pull out Maggie (some of you remember her!) or Queen Anne's Lace.  Lavender and Lace is NOT for the faint of heart!  I used to rotate my stitching when that was all I did and I could spend an entire night working on a project.  Now I juggle knitting, stitching, would like to add quilting to knock out some of that fabric stash,  teenaged kids (granted Baby Girl is only 12 but middle school = teenaged problems) and an Insane One (the dh).

The other thing I do is keep track of when I start projects.  Bag Ladies WAS started in this century, but barely.  I started in Aug 2001.  That was before Baby Girl was born and the Twin Towers were still standing.

Let that sink in a add in the fact it's not my oldest WIP.  I *think* that honor goes to Queen Anne's Lace, but I'm not positive.

Outside my window... it's dark.  I have been a busy girl today!  Laundry and grocery shopping and more laundry and closet organization.
And more laundry.

I am thinking... I'm making a mental list of all that I want to do in the house.  It is a long list.....

I am thankful... for good friends who also craft.  I met up with some local friends on Friday.  We try to get together once a month to either knit or sew (depending on your craft of choice) and then we have lunch!  Everybody brings something and we talk until we have to leave.   On Monday I got to meet up with Dee.  This was LONG overdue!  We were trying to figure out when we last got to meet up and the consensus is it's been at least a year.  WAY too long.  We have such a good time together, we *try* to stay quiet in the book store, but we're usually having such a good time, ppl leave us alone!

In the kitchen... I tried a new recipe today for dinner, a chicken carbonara.  Meh.  Not the best.  Wont be making it again.  I'm dying to make more banana muffins.
*start rant*  One of the hard things of this house is my fridge.  I'm used to a top freezer/bottom fridge unit.  That's what I've had all my life.  I LOVE them.  This house has your typical side by side.  Hate it.  I cant fit much in it!!  When we first moved here I had used up most of my freezer stuff and it was mostly empty.  I move it here and BOOM my freezer is full!!!  Makes it very hard to stock up.  *end rant*

I am wearing... blue t-shirt, grey knit shorts.  HOWEVER I also organized my closet today and tried on some clothes I haven't worn in a year.  The fruits of this horrid surgery are finally coming to fruition!!!  I no longer look 5 months pregnant which means that clothes that were tight in the belly before actually fit!  Best part of my day.

I am creating... working on another slouchy hat and am abt to start the decreases.   I'll be posting when its complete.  I still need to cast on for sock #2 in my new crazy sock yarn.  I received two different charity blankets in the mail that I need to start working on.  One I already have the yarn for, but the other will require a trip to JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby.  Oh the sacrifice one must make for charity.........

I am going... to take it easy tomorrow.  I did quite a bit today and now that I've stopped, I'm starting to feel it.  I'm tired.  Not exhausted, just tired.  This is a good thing.

I am wondering... about the price of food.  I went to my local Publix last week to get some milk.  I literally, audibly sucked in air.  It was $4.09 for a gallon of Publix milk.   I put it back.  I could not bear to pay that much for milk.  Target was $3.99, not much better.  I went to Walgreens and got TGLee milk for $2.99.  It was on sale.  Food has gone up so much AND product amounts have shrunk (yes I have noticed the size go from a 12oz to a 9oz bottle of dish soap, Dawn!)  Cereal is another culprit.  I got cereal today because it was a BOGO.    How much are you guys paying for milk?

I am reading... bills and school field trip forms.  I was watching the Olympics.  I am glad that new shows are back.

I am hoping... to sort thru bills and miscellaneous paperwork tomorrow.  I need to get a handle on where we're at with bills and money.  It's a constant battle.  I may need yarn to soothe my budget stress.

I am looking forward to... a couple of band trips are coming up, one in March and another in May.  It's hard to believe that February is almost over.

I am hearing......  nothing.  The kids have their faces in various forms of computer apparatuses (apparati?) and the IO is already in bed.  And it's not even 7:30.

Around the house...  laundry is pretty much caught up; my side of the closet is organized; old dishes were washed and are now drying;  new dishes are soaking in the sink (dishes NEVER go away)

I am pondering... the news.  I used to be such a news hound but lately I just cant seem to stomach it.  It's either a new disease that running rampant (H1N1 seems to be hanging around, a new disease in CA that mimics polio is making it's rounds), or some extreme group hating on somebody else, or some country rioting.  I don't have the strength for it all yet.

A favorite quote for today...
Normal is relative

One of my favorite things aka Hemi's Corner......

A few plans for the rest of the week:  We've joined the gym again and we are meeting with a trainer on Thursday.  I cant do anything but walk so this will be more for Baby Girl.  I mostly go for the treadmill and the classes, but if Baby Girl wants to work the circuit, she'll have an idea what to do.  I'm also doing Parade of Homes with my sisters on Saturday.  I'm hoping for a few ideas for my windows and my walls; both seem to be a bit sparse.
There's my update!!  If you want to participate, go here.

Simple Woman's Daybook - Wednesday's Edition

Outside my window... it is rainy.  We had some HEAVY rains and a tornado watch, but that seems to have passed.   It's bringing with it a cool front.  Tomorrow we have a high of 62.  I will take it!!!   While I would love to be in all that snow everybody seems to be getting, I'll keep my cloudy 62 than have to deal with the ice that seems to be coming with this storm.

I am thinking... that I actually might be back to my old self by the end of March.  I'm seeing some extra movement that I didn't have a couple weeks back.  I have noticed that my energy level is much better.  Yesterday I was able to drop Baby Girl off at school, come home and walk a half mile, take a shower, make breakfast and get back to the school in an hour.  I helped with the separating of the current fundraiser, left to get #1 Son, make him a grilled ham and cheese, take him and Baby Girl to the library, the gym (to sign us up) and Target.  Dinner was Chick Fil A and  I was in bed by 8pm, but I am really impressed with myself!!  It's been a LONG time since I could do all that in one day!

I am thankful... that I'm starting to see the old me coming back.  I've got a ways to go, but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

In the kitchen... tonight's dinner was pork chops with stuffing and baked apples.  VERY good.  I also made some banana muffins.  I specifically got ripe bananas just to make these!!

I am wearing... a red San Diego Zoo t-shirt, tan capris and some hand knit socks.

I am creating... socks!!!!  Sock #1 is done for this pair.
and sock #2 is done for this pair!!
I don't know what went wrong with this pair, but one foot is abt a 1/2 inch shorter than the other foot.  Instead of adding it to the charity bag, I added it to the IO's drawer.   He'll never notice the difference.

I am going... to get another muffin once I publish this post!

I am wondering... why Subway feels the need to add yoga mat filler to their bread.

I am reading... #1 Son wanted to stop at the library for a book which meant I had to peruse their new release section.  In true form, I found a few I wanted to read...
I went thru a few last night and three of them went back to the library today.  While I would love to have a yard with a ton of birds, I also have three cats.  Cats are listed as the #1 predator of local birds.  Hmmm, think I'll have to stay with the high bird feeders we used to have at the old house.  I also returned Meals in a Jar and DIners Drive-ins and Dives.  I like my cookbooks to be in color.    I'll go thru the other two cookbooks to see if anything catches my eye and I'm hoping to start reading Heist by the wknd.

I am hoping... to start unpacking the back of the van.  It is still full of stuff from the move.  From the old craft room.  And the bookshelves.  ~sigh~  I should probably just bring in a book every time I pick somebody up or bring somebody home.  THAT would get that backseat empty in no time!

I am looking forward to... meeting up with some girlfriends on Friday.

I am hearing...... it's only 7pm and the house is unusually quiet.  Everybody is tired and it's only half way thru the week!!  The IO is already in bed and Baby Girl is not far from it.

Around the house... not much is going on.  I'm trying to keep up with chores but nothing extra is happening.

I am pondering... the logistics of what I WANT to get done vs what I ACTUALLY get done.  This has little to do with my surgery as it has to do with me.  I get SO much more done in my head than I do in real life.  It's worse now, but at least I have an excuse!

A favorite quote for today... Saw this online the other day and thought it was very interesting.

One of my favorite things  AKA Hemi's corner:  I took this a couple of days ago when he was just enjoying the weather.

A few plans for the rest of the week: I've got my final appt with my gut doctor tomorrow.  YEAH!  I was told I can lift around 20-30 pounds now and while I can lift a laundry basket, the baked ziti I made over the wknd seemed really heavy!!!  I think it was the twisting and bending along with holding that did it.  I had the IO take it out once it was done.  It didn't do any damage because I don't feel any worse because of it other than being a bit sore for the next two days!!!   Baby Girl and I joined the gym again, and while I cant do anything other than walk, Baby Girl can take yoga and pilates and zumba and a spin class.  She's been wanting to do it for a long time now and I view the expense like her ballet class.  If it gets her moving and exercising we're all for it!

A peek into my day... I was able to walk  .7 miles today!  I've been trying to walk a half a mile a day but with the weather being so bad, it's been hard to be consistent.  I was able to walk that half mile yesterday and today I figured I'd try to go a bit further before I turned back.   AND I didn't feel like I was going to fall over when I got home either!!!  I was going to try for a full mile, but then decided I didn't want to push it too far.  It's amazing how much better I feel when I go for a walk in the AM.  I also went grocery shopping and made dinner including those muffins.  Baby steps forward.....
Ok so if you all want to play and ramble on like I do, go here!

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window... is it warm.  I'm not complaining!!  But our weather has been weird here too.  Last Thursday we never got out of the 50s.  Yesterday we broke heat records at 86!!  Even the weathermen say it's weird.  PLUS any forecast more than two days out is completely off by the time it gets here.  Our forecast this week.....

Yesterday they had us in the higher 80s on the wknd.  Now it's not as hot.  I'll take it!

I am thinking... that my brain is NOT thinking!!  Today was Baby Girl's A Honor Roll Breakfast.  I knew it was coming up, but I totally forgot it was today.  Ok Baby Girl did too, but I don't forget these things.  Thank goodness a friend of mine texted me to see if I was showing up.  I was able to see her get her certificate.  Very proud of that girl of mine!
My phone takes lousy pics.  Here is one of her against the wall.

I am thankful... for the little strides of health.  I have them, they are just slow.  I am thankful for them nonetheless.

In the kitchen... in the past week I've made chicken noodle soup (yum),
very basic soup but SO good when it's cold or you're not feeling great
15 bean soup (ick!but it was my fault) and some peach whiskey barbecue chicken.  OMG that was amazing!!!   I didn't use as much whiskey as called for and I had to use some peach/apricot preserves since there was no plain peach, but it was a major winner in the house!!!  I made 10 chicken thighs and they were GONE.  I always have leftovers but this time there were none.  Definitely a keeper!!
Tonight's dinner is ham, scalloped potatoes, green bean casserole and corn bread.  It would have suited the weather better over the wknd, but I was too wiped out for it.  I am SO looking forward to dinner tonight!!

I am wearing... dark grey shirt with the Eiffel Tower on it and tan capris

I am creating... my socks!!!!  I am LOVING this yarn!  I got the yarn on Thursday, rolled it in a ball on Friday,
isn't it pretty?!?
cast on Saturday
I don't even mind the semi-spiral of the colors!  it evened out over the heel and gusset.
and I just started the foot yesterday.  That is FAST for me !!!  I don't usually make socks that quickly but I'm loving this yarn.  It's just so happy and makes me feel good.  I seem to add a few more rows before I put it down.

I am going... to be getting #1 Son soon from school.  I really don't know where the day went.

I am wondering... if I get my brain back at the same time I get my energy back.  Time will tell.

I am reading... blogs.  I'm not commenting as much but I am trying to keep up every couple of days.

I am hoping... to have enough energy to finish dinner.  I've got the scalloped potatoes in the oven.  Yes this post is taking me all day to complete.......

I am looking forward to...  the end of March.  I am also looking forward to working on my sock after dinner.

I am hearing....  nothing.  And it's wonderful!

Around the house... sigh.  A definite source of my frustration.  We did get rid of another box this wknd.  Baby Girl put away all the spices.  We also found the box with my Pyrex casserole dishes in them (well at least two of them, two more are still missing)  This is good.  Baby steps.  I want this house unpacked by the time we are here a year.  I think that's a doable goal.

I am pondering... the teenage years.  My kids are good, but the hormones still rage.  We will survive, and I will continue to knit.

A favorite quote for today...
in honor of #1 Son.

One of my favorite things AKA Hemi's Corner....

Hemi being a pain to Lucy.  This is Lucy's box that she sleeps in.  Well she popped out to get food and he popped in.  When she came back, she had a look on her!!!  She was PISSED!  (sorry. don't normally use that word but it SO fits her expression at the time) She sat there staring at him until he left.  Then she reclaimed her box!!!  I put out another box, but nobody wanted that one.

A few plans for the rest of the week:  I have a drs appt on Thursday for Baby Girl, but she doesn't have to be there.  Her bloodwork came back and they want to go over it.  I find it odd that they don't want her there.  I'm not worried that something is wrong, but that they aren't including her.  Yet  another reason I'm not fond of this new dr.....  I also have a PTO meeting on Friday I'm gonna shoot for.

A peek into my day... I just saw these guys outside my backporch just a few minutes ago.....
I have NEVER seen 5 together before.  Usually there are two, sometimes three (2 parents and a baby) and a couple of times I've seen four (2 parents and 2 babies) but never five.  Both Hemi and Princess were staring out the window at them.  That's what caught my eye.
So there you have it, another installation of TSWD, this time with LOTS of pictures!!  If you want to play, go here.
