Warm Woolies Has One More

It's nice to be getting my knitting groove back again.  It's not completely here but I'm definitely making progress.  On Monday I finished off a charity vest that I started awhile back.

The neck doesn't look as wonky IRL
What I love abt these charity projects is I get to use up some small pieces of wool.  Or those single balls of wool that were in a swap box or in a clearance bin. The grey yarn that I used in the vest looked darker when I originally picked it out.  It had more of a stripey effect than what the finished product has, but I still like it. And  that blue yarn I used at the end?  I wasn't sure if I would have enough to finish the vest,  but I figured I could always use two strands of black if I did.

I had just enough.

Project details are:

Warm Woolies Vest (size 6-8)

Size 10.5 needles with 2 strands held together.  Black and white/grey/blue wool used

Date start:  7/19/14
Date end:  6/15/15

Almost a year to finish this baby up.  I've been known to whip one out in a wknd.

One WIP down, 4 to go.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

For Today...

Outside my window... Hot.  Hot hot hot!!!  It's not even noon and it feels like 104.  Actual temp is 89 with a high expected around 97.  We have already broken a heat record.  And it's only June.  Why can't we ever have record lows??

I am thinking... that I really need to go thru the pile of bills in the box.  I just know that it wont end well......

I am thankful... for my a/c.  I really dont know how all those southern belles did it with it this hot and all those layers of clothing.  No wonder so many of them swooned!

I am wearing... I'm still in my pjs.  Yes I do realize it's almost noon and I dont care!  It's one of the perks of summer.

I am creating... and finishing!!!  Last monday I finished a charity vest that's been languishing for some time now.   I plan on weaving in all the ends today and will post abt it tomorrow.  It was a good project to get back into the swing of things.

I am going... to keep organizing and cleaning.  It's amazing how much I've thrown out so far.

I am wondering...when I will tackle the craft room.  It is more of a storage room than anything else and it scares me.  No wait, the craft room is bad, but the GARAGE scares me.....

I am reading... I'm not reading but Baby Girl has found not one but TWO library books that have been missing for 2 months.  That should help with the fines....

I am hoping... that the side job the IO is working on will actually turn into a full time position.

I am hearing......the bathroom fan and Lucy grooming herself.  Theo and Hemi are also on the bed but they are still in their afternoon nap mode.

In my garden...  Not much went on this year.  I did plant two tomato plants that did quite well.  In fact we had quite a few that there was no way I could eat them all.  This was the IO's solution.

I think he used a Mario Batali recipe but I'm not sure.  Either way it was good!
In my kitchen... before this heat wave and after I left work, I've been making up for lost time!  I had a turkey in the freezer that I thawed and the four of us had a nice turkey dinner with stuffing and green bean casserole and crescent rolls.  We kept it just the four of us and it was nice.

A favorite quote for today...

One of my favorite things  AKA Hemi's Corner:

A peek into my summer:  We have friends visiting this week so we have plans to see them on Friday and again on Sun.  More friends are coming out tomorrow and we are trying to plan something for all of us to do (most likely bowling).   We've got another NC trip coming up next week and then theatre camp starts.  The day after it ends #1 Son starts band camp.  We have very few quiet days this summer and I'm trying to enjoy all that I get.

Well That Was Interesting

The last time I worked in an office was when Baby Girl was in Pre-K.  It didnt work out very well.  Fast forward to 2014.  Now #1 Son and Baby Girl are teenagers.  And expensive.  So I try it again.   I went back to work  last July for almost a year.  It was part time, but I kept having to leave and take one kid here and pick up another kid there.  It felt more like a full time job.  I was exhausted.  We ate fast food.  A LOT. The house wasnt just a mess, it was dirty.   Plus we were still struggling to meet bills.  So we weighed the pros and cons.  Guess what?  There were more cons than pros so I gave my 2 week notice.  I miss the pay check but I dont miss the added stress.  It’s hard explaining that to some people because they figure the money trumps the chaos that is the rest of my life, but not leaving for work  every morning has helped immensely.  I knew it wasn’t just me thinking I was losing my mind when a teacher I’ve known for yrs asked me “What happened to you?”  He was joking but it made an impact.  I had become more reactive than proactive.  Plus I am sorting thru my projects and Baby Girl said she cant remember the last time she saw me knit. Considering knitting keeps me sane, it’s been a rough year!

So while I need to really keep the budget tight and maybe sell some extra stuff  on eBay, this is better.  I am the anchor for this family and when the anchor is off kilter, the whole ship runs amok!

My Saturday Sky.  Did you get a chance to look up today?

Now that I'm home, I'm slowly going thru the piles in my house.  I've never really fully unpacked.  AND we know we wont be living here much longer (another story for another post) so as I sort and clean, I look at what I have and decide if I want to move it or throw it out.  I've thrown a LOT out.  And I have 3 big bags to donate.

Part of the piles have been projects that have been ignored for a long time.  I pulled out this big boy to work on.

It will be a blanket to keep by the TV.  I'm at a stand still since I cant find the rest of the yarn (story of my life), but I found 3 other projects in various stages of completion plus another one that I have to make a swatch for (yuck)

Nine years and 1 week ago I started this blog (HAPPY BLOGIVERSARY TO ME!) It seems summers are a nice break in the action for us here and I'm going to take advantage of that and hopefully get my blog back in gear.  So if you see notifications that I've posted yet again, dont be surprised!!

I've been gone WAY too long!
